The Timing of the Rapture, Pre/Mid/Post-Trib?

The rapture is the great "catching away" of all those who have trusted Christ - living and dead. The word "rapture" is not found in scripture. It is from the Latin Vulgate (ancient Latin translation of the Bible) "rapere" which means to "catch up." In 1 Thess 4:17 the Bible states that we will be "caught up" and this is the phrase where the Vulgate used the word "rapere."
1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 is the definitive passage that describes the event we call the rapture.

1 Thess 4:
15. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

The fact that the saints will be raptured is clear in scripture and there has not been much debate on that fact. However, the timing of the rapture has been hotly debated for centuries. So, the question is, when will the rapture occur?

The Pre-Tribulation
By far, the most popular view is the Pre-Tribulation position. The “Left Behind” books and movies perpetuate this view. Teachers of the Pre-Tribulation view believe Jesus will rapture His people at the beginning of the 70th Week. God's people (except those who are saved during the 7 years) are completely absent from the earth during the last 7 years, while God’s wrath is being poured out on the earth, going through the Bema Judgment and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.

There are three significant events that are specific to this view. First, this view sees the seals, trumpets and vials as all signifying God's wrath and that they are poured out upon mankind during the entire 7 years. Second, the 144,000 Jews spoken of in Revelation chapter seven are seen as Jewish evangelists who will usher in the greatest revival in history - which is the third significant event.

Pre-trib problems
There are some scriptural problems with the Pre-Tribulation view. The first is that scripture mentions explicitly that the return of Christ will be unmistakable. According to the Pre-Tribulation view, the rapture will be only known to those taken to heaven. The rest of the world will know only that multitudes have disappeared. However, scripture indicates on several occasions that when Christ returns it will be obvious.

Slide #3-Mat 24:
26. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Slide #4-Luke 17:
23. And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.
24. For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.

Slide #5-Rev 1: 7. Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

If the rapture is a "secret" to the world, how could these scriptures be relevant? Furthermore, why would Christ have not explicitly told his followers that in the last day they would be raptured, and then God's wrath would be poured upon the world? Why is the pre-tribulational rapture missing from end-time passages?

Another problem is that according to this view, the Holy Spirit will be absent from the world having been "taken out of the way" by the rapture of the church. Therefore, how do we explain the greatest revival in history and the great multitude saved when the Holy Spirit is no longer in the world?

Furthermore, scripture tells us that rather than a multitude saved, God will cause those who reject Him to be deluded into delighting in wickedness...

Slide #6-2 Thess 2:
10. And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12. That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

We are also told in the book of Revelation that even after suffering God's wrath people will still not repent.

Slide #7-Rev 9: 20. And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: (this is after the 6th trumpet has sounded)

Rather than a great revival taking place, it seems that people will dive more into wickedness and rejecting God than ever before.

If there is a pre-tribulational rapture, then according to Matthew 24, there must be two raptures...

Slide #8-Matt 24: 29. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
The Son of Man in the clouds, loud trumpet call, send his angels, gather his elect... it sounds a lot like the rapture doesn’t it? Therefore, if the rapture has already happened, there will be another very similar event - supposedly directed at the Jews. The scripture in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 also poses a problem.

Slide #9- 2 Thess 2
1. Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
3. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

This passage begins "concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to Him..." Does this sound like he is speaking of the rapture? Then he goes on to say that "that day" will not come until the "man of lawlessness" (the Antichrist) is revealed. So what comes first, The Antichrist or the rapture?

The Mid-Tribulation position is that the rapture will occur at the mid-point of the 70th Week when Antichrist demands the world worship him. Stronger evidence, as we already covered. The antichrist won’t be revealed until the middle of the 7 years, and the rapture can’t happen before then. But the “Day of the Lord” is his coming both for the church and to pour out his wrath.

Slide #10 Isaiah 13:6-10
6. Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7. Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:
8. And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9. Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10. For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

Slide #11- Isaiah 13:11-13
11. And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12. I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13. Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

29. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Slide #13- Luke 21: 25. And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26. Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Starting to sound like the post-tribulation position, is it? Some post-trib teacher believe the saints will endure the wrath of God?

There are some scriptural problems with that point of view:

Slide #14-Romans 5: 9. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Slide #15- 1 Thess 1 10. And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Slide #16 1 Thess 5: 9. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.

SEALS, TRUMPETS, AND VIALS
A seal was used to authenticate an official proclamation, having the sovereign’s official seal impressed upon melted wax. Seeing the official seal of the King meant “Pay attention-this is vital information from your KING!”

1. And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
2. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

"The liberal media have long portrayed the Bush administration as hostile to the United Nations. Yet, Bush's State Department signed a document on September 15, 2005 that would result in an unprecedented militarization of the United Nations.
The 2005 World Summit Outcomes document would (among other things) strengthen the military "stand-by arrangements" already in existence with 80 nations (for the United Nations to call up troops from national armies) and would initiate a new standing UN police force. World Summit Outcomes stipulates: "We endorse the creation of an initial operating capability for a standing police capacity to provide coherent, effective and responsible start-up capability for the policing component of the United Nations peacekeeping missions and to assist existing missions through the provision of advice and expertise."
The proposed UN "police capacity" would be charged (at first) with keeping order in zones where UN forces have already been deployed. It's no great stretch, however, to see this gradually mutating into a de facto global police force enforcing UN mandates and arresting individuals for prosecution and trial by UN institutions. Along these lines, it should be especially noteworthy to American gun owners that World Summit Outcomes champions a favorite UN theme: the elimination of civilian ownership of small arms and light weapons. As we have reported extensively in past issues, the 2001 UN "Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects" left no doubt as to the organization's animus toward private ownership of firearms, making no distinction between criminals, terrorists, and law-abiding citizens.
The enhanced new UN "peacekeeping" army call-up arrangements would be roughly analogous to the U.S. National Guard system, whereby states maintain soldiers who can be called up by the federal government. In order to implement the world police and "world guard"-style global army, the document requires the United Nations to establish a Peace-building Commission that would be partnered with the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
This raises the possibility that a standing UN army may soon be possible without the approval of national governments, even though our governments are providing the funding through the IMF and World Bank."

Control by financial domination. World Bank- (for a world government) IMF-(Control governments) The Federal Reserve-implemented by Knights of Malta, International Bankers, ultimately controlled by the Jesuits, Rome, will force the “Mark of the Beast” on the world in the end. World wide currency
Notice the Oil and Wine cartels are NOT price controlled.

Slide # 20- 4th seal-Pale Horse- Rev.6:
7. And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
8. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

Control by Terrorism, blocked rescue of famine relief (hunger-UN mishandling), AIDS, Islamic fascism (kill with the sword) school shootings, etc. Irvin Baxter Jr. of ENDTIME.com teaches: The pale (chloros or green) horse is the “spirit” of Islam. Death and hell followed. The pale horse is given power over 1/4 of the earth.

The Above 4 horses are also seen in Zech.6:
1. And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
2. In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses;
3. And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled and bay horses.
4. Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord?
5. And the angel answered and said unto me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.
6. The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grisled go forth toward the south country.

(The spirit of capitalism works contrary to the Holy Spirit, even though most evangelicals seem to worship capitalism; the “prosperity” gospel stops true revival, and the seeking for the personal cross to bear.)

Jesus wasn’t interested in selfish consumerism. He didn’t promote a “name it and claim it” gospel. What was on his mind? Souls in eternity. Let this mind be in you...

During the 10 plagues of Moses day- after the first 3 of 10- plagues God spared the Hebrews from the remainder of His Wrath.

14. Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.

1 Cor.15:
